12:47Paula PaajanenAbout open access publishing: How researchers usually pay for their article being published in open access?

12:53Olli Nuutinenthank you, I will ask the question at the end of first lecture part

12:54VierasI think usually the research group pay the fee, but good to be sure.

13:05Hannu SalomaaCan you say, that doing research is virtually like business?

13:08Olli Nuutinenthank you, I will ask the question at the end of first lecture part

13:25Jenni RiihimäkiDo most journals ask for a manuscript of the whole article? Why do some journals ask the authors to submit an abstract only?

13:26Olli Nuutinenthank you, I will ask the question at the end of first lecture part

13:33Annamari KorhonenCan you give practical tips for making a clear difference between what should be included in the discussion and what belongs into the part of conclusion where practical implications of the results are considered? It can be difficult to know sometimes which of these sections is the best place for some ideas. (Humanities)

13:34Olli Nuutinenthere will be more info of those later in the lecture

13:56VierasWhat were the answers for questions asked in the chat, I missed as was away for a while?

13:59Olli Nuutinena break 15 minutes, continue 14.10. Sorry that you missed answers, the anwers were little bit long to make a summary here...maybe other particpants continue the discussion?

14:24Jenni Riihimäki1. The research unit often pays for open access publishing. This is often included in the budget. You can also pay it yourself. 2. research as business? yes and no.. 3. most journals do ask for full article manuscripts, not abstracts, and when you submit a paper, you should think that it is good enough to be published as it is.

14:26VierasThanks Jenni for your concise summary. :)

14:26Jenni Riihimäkino problem!

14:27Olli Nuutinenplease see about open access: http://libguides.uta.fi/openaccessenglish

14:56PhDstudentDoes the cover letter mean additional attachment in email or is it usually written straight to e-mail text field?

15:09Johanna SoiniHow to make literature review qualitative enough but compact. Do you need to have systematic review? But then you need to limit the papers you use as reference.

15:10Olli Nuutinenthank you, I will ask the question at the end of this lecture part

15:12Olli NuutinenJohanna, can you clarify what you mean by "qualitative enough"

15:23Johanna SoiniTo justify the research you have to have wide basic knowledge. "The purpose of a literature review is not to present all possible references, but to concentrate on those that are relevant for the focus of your article. The literature review will position your research in relation to previous literature; therefore cite articles on which your research is based." But it is still highly valued if you have done the search systematically. How to define how many reference you use, to maintain the status systematic review.

15:25Olli Nuutinenthank you, I will ask the question at the end of this lecture part

15:49Olli Nuutinenplease also see Pekka Belt's lecture on 25.5. http://www.uta.fi/ajankohtaista/tapahtumat/writing-doctoral-dissertation-0

15:53Hannu SalomaaPekka is great in giving lectures!

15:54Olli Nuutinenyou can have lecture slides as .pdf from olli.nuutinen@uta.fi after the lecture

15:55Hannu SalomaaI like how Pekka highlights some of his points by practical examples.

15:55Jenni RiihimäkiGood lecture! Very systematic and easy to follow. It covered many important points, and was general enough to be useful for many fields of study.

15:57Olli Nuutinenthan you!

15:58Paula PaajanenThank you for the lecture!
